Clyde Regal

1907 - 1984

Louis Bromfield Clyde Regal was born In Tingha, NSW on the 31st of July 1907 to Murdoch and Florence Regal. He was the second of 7 children to the family. On the 24th of May 1930, he married Iris Evelyn Martin (1910-2000) and the couple had 4 children together. Throughout the 1930's his family lived in Richmond NSW, moving houses every couple of years.

Regal would enlist into the 5th training battalion on the 5th of May 1941. He remained there for several months before transferring to the 1st training battalion at the start of August. On the third of September he embarked from Sydney and arrived in the Middle East by the end of the month. Shortly after arriving he found himself briefly in hospital, and upon his release he was assigned to the Australian Headquarters Guard Battalion on the 4th of November.

Over the following year and a half, Regal remained with the Unit in North Africa and the Middle east before returning to Australia in March 1943. Upon his arrival back his unit was moved to Townsville where it undertook further training.

In January 1944, Regal embarked for Port Morsby where in February he gained his proficiency as a Rifleman. After only 3 months in New Guinea, He returned to Townsville where he remained until April 1945 when his unit was sent to Lae. Regal was only in Lae for a month before he was again returned to Australia where he was discharged from the army on the 17th of May 1945.

After the war, Regal spent several years working as a Porter. He and his family continued to move between houses every few years. By the 1960's He was working as a farmer and would do so until retiring in the 1970's. Regal died on February 13, 1984, in Ballina, New South Wale at the age of 76.
