In 1930, the Japanese overhauled the design of their military canteen. the result was the Sho-5 (named as such as it was made in the 5th year of Showa, 1930) canteen. Over the next 15 years, the canteen would remain the same, however, the harness carrying it would change three times. This particular canteen is dated to 1934 (Showa 7), however the harness is the third varient made. It contains no metal parts, reflecting Japan's shortages, and would date to 1942 or later.
