Between the World Wars, the Australian military relied on a system of volunteer and mandatory militia’s, known as the Citizens Military Forces (CMF), to provide the bulk of the countries security. This uniform is an example of the jackets worn by the militia of the Royal Australian Artillery (RAA) from 1932 to about 1941. This particular example was owned by Gunner David Cox Owler who enlisted in 1935 and went on to serve with the RAA in the AID during the Second World War.
