This service dress was the primary dress uniform for the United States army prior to 1944 when it was replaced by the 'Ike' uniform. The Tunic was made in 1940 and the trousers in 1942. Interestingly the trousers were made in Australia, this was not too uncommon as earlier in the conflict the US commissioned several items to be made out of country.
The uniform was owned by World War Two veteran David L. Raymond; however, he did not wear the uniform himself during the war.
