As the Japanese expanded into more tropical climates, they found that their predominantly wool uniforms were not suitable. As a result, a number of lighter weight uniforms were developed. This jacket is an example of the Type 98 Summer Jacket. It saw extensive service in the South Pacific.  It is dated 1939 and remains unissued.
