As the Japanese expanded into more tropical climates, they found that their predominantly wool uniforms were not suitable. As a result, a number of lighter weight uniforms were developed. These trousers are an example of the Type 98 tropical trousers. They saw extensive service in the South Pacific and are dated 1941. This particular pair are possibly named to Takeo Ishgaki (石垣武夫).
