Between 1943-9 the grey cotton service dress was authorized for use by the United States Navy and saw use as an officer's uniform. This particular tunic belonged to a junior Lieutenant who served with the medical Corp. He saw service in the American theatre, the African theatre and in the Pacific as indicated by the 3 campaign medals above the left pocket. The owner of this uniform is unknown.
