Mess dress jackets are most frequently used by officers for evening mess and other social occasions that warrant such attire. the uniform is very refined. This particular jacket is most likely from the early 1930's. This can be assumed by the 'GvR' buttons on the epaulettes, indicating it was made prior to 1936. The jacket was worn by junior officer of the Royal Engineers however the exact details of the soldier’s name and rank are unknown.
